Black Pepper exports could slow down as exporters across the globe are facing serious difficulty in dealing with US importers as importers are complaining about the issue of immature berry content in the most of the consignments. This problem is not only faced by the Indian exports but also exporters form Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brazil face the same difficulty. The content of immature berries in every lot is above 2% and sometimes even more than 3%.
The exporters have to pay one per cent as tolerance allowance to the buyer. If more than three per cent, the lot is rejected, as failing the American Spice Trade Association (Asta) standard. Sources say that the sample is being tested in those of the Spices Board or private ones in India is just showing 1.1-1.1.2% which is allowed. However some section of importers in the U.S say that content is crossing over 2% or 3%.
