About ABS

Academy of Business Studies (ABS), New Delhi is a group of professionals with backgrounds of management, law and IT. The organisation started operations in 1983 and operates from a modest flat at Ansari Road in the publishing district of the Delhi and a research lab in East Delhi.

The promoter

ABS is headed by Arun Goyal. He is an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, a leading Management Institute in India.

Our current activities and past achievements :

·          The Academy of Business Studies has been assigned the task of study and survey of FDI based R&D Service units in India by the Ministry of Science and Technology (TIFAC). The study analyses the status and performance of FDI based R&D units in India. another study on FDI in the trade sector fro Ministry of Commerce is in progress.

·          A project on the Exim Policy on Hazardous Wastes assigned by the Ministry of Environment and Forests New Delhi was successfully completed in February 2003. Assignment to rewrite the Export and Import Policy along with reorganisation of Export Licensing Policy were completed successfully in 2003-2004. ABS works closely with the European Commission and World Bank on trade policy in India and South Asia.

·          Building databases on government policies particularly export and import policy, custom tariff, foreign exchange and other issues in international trade. Preparing and publishing the popular book Easy Reference Customs Tariff 2005-2006, 24th   edition, ISBN: 81-86234-32-2 along with the update service called Weekly Index of Changes

    Over the last 20 years, the Academy has made significant. Original contributions in bringing transparency to Exim Policy and tariff affairs besides adding to the body of knowledge on trade issues.

·          The Academy has worked on the concept subject of WTO since 1994 with the support of World Trade Centre, Mumbai and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade. Over a period of time, five editions of the state of the art compilation of the book WTO in the New Millennium have been successfully prepared. We also edit and publish the World Trade Scanner, an international weekly on WTO and other current topics of global trade. All the four WTO Ministerials have been personally monitored by ABS.

·          ABS News Service contributes news stories and analysis to newspapers, including CRAFTCIL, the official journal of Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts. ABS feature Export Import Notes appears in The Economic Times and other leading dailies in India every week. The New Service is accredited to Government of India.

·          The ABS Consultancy Service provides advisory services on trade matters, particularly on trade policies and procedures, duty structure, and WTO issues to international organisations, governments and the private sector. Current assignments include formulation of a policy on hazardous wastes import, India Bangladesh trade, Trade procedures in India and Non tariff barriers in India and Sri Lanka.
